Unread posts since last visit....
« on: March 08, 2011, 12:34:31 PM »
Anyone else have problems with this feature?  I log on, check "new replies to posts", then check "unread posts" and the only ones that show are the ones that were posted since I logged on THIS time.

I used to not have this problem and don't think I changed any settings or anything.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

No ideas.  I encounter the same issue.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

This topic has been brought up before. I have the same problem occasionally but not very often. I think someone said you need to clear your cache. But don't ask me how to do that.     :)

I use it all the time and have never ran into this problem. Not sure why...just never happened.

Cache on the browser side can be cleared many different ways. Internet Explorer 8 (you need Developer Tools Installed) Tools -->> Developer Tools -->> Cache -->> Clear Browser Cache.

Sometimes people sit behind a proxy server. In that case your proxy server at work or wherever it is located is likely not retrieving the latest web page. It would not be a website issue. However I know some proxy servers can be force updated by Ctrl+Refresh.

Finally, I have no idea why your browser is not getting the data. However this feature works on thousands of forums which have SMF installed. I can only suggest it is something along the pipeline and likely is not a result of a bug in the forum software itself. So I would be looking at how my browser retrieves pages. There are settings for that on most browsers. Attached is an image of one such setting aside from cache settings.

I am on my laptop at home, so no proxy servers involved, I think....

Funny thing is, I just logged back on after being off for ten minutes or so, and now it worked.  It is one of those oddly intermittent things, I guess.  Aren't computers wonderful.

I would check the browser settings. I attached an image above as one such example.

Some people are behind proxy servers and are not commercially connected. AOL is one example... The issue may manifest itself in more than one way. So there is not always one answer for the general inquiry which fits all.

Along the same lines; does anyone know what happened to the search bar that used to be towards the top of the page. At least for me, it is gone.

I removed it. People get confused by the scope of the results it returns under specific conditions.
