Copalis update.
« on: May 18, 2008, 09:41:02 AM »
What a difference two weeks can make.

I went up after work Friday and stayed until Saturday afternoon. I didn’t have the ambition or drive to really hunt so I made a couple stands but did more scouting and driving then anything. Like the last couple weekends I found all kinds of predator tracks (bear, bobcat, cougar), but unlike the last couple times I did not see any grouse, deer or hunters.

The ‘green up’ has happened and the visibility on the coast has been cut down. The leaves are growing and the fir buds are ready to pop which means the sap is starting to flow. I found about a dozen recent peels this weekend. They weren’t there last time I was up, but they aren’t smokin’ fresh either. Probably happened right after my last visit.

This one was visible from the road.

Once I find a peel I always look at the surrounding trees for more and sure enough from this one I could see another one. You can see it in the circle in the center of the pic.

A couple sunset photos.

Same night, different spot.

I found these cougar tracks a few hundred yards from where I found some (same size) a couple weeks ago.
