Bow Hunting Education
« on: March 11, 2011, 07:14:21 PM »
I was wondering if you guys would strongly recommend taking bowhunting education before beginning bowhunting, or if the class is just made to satisfy the requirements for out of state hunting. I have been hunting for years now and have taken the normal class, but this will be my first upcoming season bowhunting. Would it be THAT beneficial to sit through another 14-16 hour class??? Thanks!

I took it and it seemed like more of a formality, if you are already an experienced hunter I don't think its that necessary. I think you would be better off just getting shooting lessons or something. the main thing that they teach you is ethics in bow hunting, a lot shorter effective range etc.

I do not think it should be a requirement for entering into bow hunting and with your experience I would probably pass unless you have some spare time to waste. A lot of people take it in order to archery hunt in Alaska or other places, states which might require bowhunters education.

There are some things which you can learn for certain. If you have an extra day I would recommend taking it to see what it's about. You can do most of the testing online and walk in for a day to finish up the field portion.

It's a good little class, I still have to do my practical but the written material is pretty interesting. A few of the members on here are instructors and might chime in soon.

Ill probably take the course after a few seasons and when I have some more spare time. Right now I am working on my Bachelors in Engineering at UW, so I am pretty busy. I'm really looking forward to experiencing bow hunting and getting in the field this fall!

I took it back in '87 and found it to be fun AND educational, lot more informative that the firearm safety course, but I then got to take it in the museum at NW Archery.
