Can someone tell me exactly what this is. I know you have to turn in cougar and bobcat pelts to have it done but what do they do to them? Ink? Press? Tag? What???

They attach a numbered locking tag. Another primary purpose of sealing hides is to prevent illegal take. No taxidermist or fur buyer can take a hide that isn't sealed.

Thank you for the info. I hope to fill a cougar tag this year and a nice bob cat would be cool too  ;)

otters, bobcats and several other animals need a US. cities tag on them before they can be sold or taxidermied so that is what they are doing it is a plasic tag. most furs that are sold these days eventually end up over seas and these species need that tag to leave the country. Every state has to do it.

We were told yesterday that that may soon change.
I can't remember if it was just for bobcats or if that included cougar as well. My notes just say, "cites is going away". That was not verbatim, but more if a reminder/reference for myself to ask further questions.....which I did not do.  :bash:

The question that elicited the response was about the yearly harvest numbers of bobcats statewide. The primary concern about this going away was that F&W needs to come up with a way count harvested bobcats in the future.

I think that is a great idea, but without a "reporting" requirement I wonder how many would bother with a voluntary report. They didn't say when this could happen, but it is definitely something the WSTA should look at with F&W. On the other hand, maybe the WSTA wouldn't want to handle harvest numbers.  :dunno:
