Whats in your vest?

My kid does not get to see this thread he would just think he needs more turkey hunting stuff......that is an awful lot to pack around ....

I see you like those big long box calls too. I did not see a pruning saw. How many decoys do you carry. I carry two hens and a jake.

Do you process the bird just after you have shot it? Back in the 60's I was sent out to the back yard with a tea kettle of hot water.
Chopped the head off a chicken in the yard, poured water, plucked and processed in less than 10 minutes. The thing I did like is that my family only had one recipe and that called for boiling the chicken, never frying or baking or roasting.

I have a pruning saw but rarely use it.  I used to carry just one or two decoys..now I carry my one stuffer decoy....I just mounted up a new one..waiting on her to dry!

Anyways I also try and clean the birds and remove crop as fast as I can usually within the hour I kill it and then I put ice in the cavity in a ziploc to cool it down.  When I get a chance then I skin it and finish processing it.

My stuff is scattered in several draws, cabinets and plastic storage bins ...... its time to start digging out my gear!  I need to pickup a friction call and stryker that is waterproof for those rainy spells.  Any recommendations?

Yelp, I tried skinning ducks, geese and pheasants. Never was able to get a satisfactory result.
I have always plucked turkeys. Is there something I should do before skinning?

My vest gets lighter the more time I put in ... us old guys start out strong, but weaken fast.
