I think I know where Norse was coming from and while I think it is a little off base, I am going to give him a freebie.  I will chalk it up to a case of the "Mondays".

It is public ground and people can help whoever they want to help without compensation.

I just want to say thanks to the people on this Site that offered me all the info when I got drawned for Rimrock this year ! I have never hunted the area and with my father sick and passing away before hunting season I didn't get a chance to scout the area the way I wanted too. With the info you guys and girls provided I did get to scout 3 days before the season - This helped me get a 6x6 and my partner a 4x5 - I have hunted Little Natches for 25 years and would gladly extend my experience about that area to the members - That is what this site is for - Helping each other out - and sorry Norse's you used to be my neighbor when you lived in Silverdale (Island Lake) but some of us at this time with the Economy the way it is can't afford a guide service and look for help from our fellow members here to steer us in the right direction on hoping for a Quality Hunt - Since now it take 10 or more points to maybe get drawn - My boy has 10 points and will be graduating from college this year and if he is drawn for Little Natches I WILL BE HIS GUIDE FOR THE WHOLE SEASON !!!

I think I have to side with rtspring on this one too.  If helping out someone on an elk hunt is "guiding", then I would guess that most of us on this site should be locked up for doing it without a license...

And not to single you out CAMPMEAT, but if I recall, one of your first posts on this site was in regards to hunting the north central part of this state for deer, and if I remember right, you offered to do almost the exact same thing that rtspring is doing....?  I could be wrong here, I am going purely off memory... :dunno:

Here are the facts,
its free, its not a business. whether I Itake my son or some complete stranger hunting is not against the law. If it were we would all be in jail for taking someone hunting...... Your splitting hairs here and stirring the pot...

Hmmm, I didn't start the thread. Plus, I don't have any friends, don't want any. :chuckle: :chuckle:

You guys are right, got a little carried away.  Sorry.  It just gets frustrating when we are paying for permits and advertising and insurance etc, and we run in to people all the time in our units "helping people out" for just a "donation" or just"gas money". We can't compete with that.  I'm all for helping guys out, I know how hard it is to draw, that's why we give discounts to hunt-wa members.  Sorry I blew it out of proportion.

Norse peak,

No worries man, The way I see it we just happen to hunt the same area. You for a living and me for a recreation. I would love to become friends and share some thoughts and ideas..... I have always wanted to be a guide but didn't want a hobby to turn into a job.

If I would have quit and made that my last post, I'd be legendary.  Colockumelk would probably have been hauled in by the FBI for questioning too... :chuckle: :chuckle:

I would think that with your experience and ability quality would be a major factor.
As a business I am sure you have the ability to put the hours in to locate and keep track of some bulls in the area that others just see occasionally.
The "Donation" or "gas money" helpers should not have a reputation, or advertising, so I am not sure how big an impact they have on your business.
Too bad they do not allot a certain # of permits for outfitters, that would help a lot if you could "guarantee" a permit, versus waiting for those drawn to contact you.

Norse,
We all know your a decent guy who has to look out and run a business. That being part of your livelyhood.
