Skunked at Liberty Lake, Checked by Fish & Game
« on: March 14, 2011, 06:51:49 AM »
Lost a few fish at Liberty yesterday. Wow was it windy. This was my first trip out on Liberty. I wanted to target Brown trout, something different than planted rainbows. I lost 2 heavy fish, one of the hook ups came just as F&W was approaching my boat for a check. My encounter with the Officers was great, friendly and professional. I did not have a sound device, so the younger officer suggested to attach a whistle to my lifevest. Great idea. Despite the wind/waves, we had a great time on the water and look forward to another chance at a big brown.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

So i am guessing that the lake is unfrozen.  That is good news i just took my boat down to get dewinterized and i was thinking of taking it to Liberty Lake.  I am assuming the bass in that lake are hungry and i will target them next weekend.

Can't tell you how glad I am to hear F&W is checking down there, although I suppose that will end after all the other lakes open up. After May, I don't touch this lake until before it gets ready to close again. Giant fishbowl with nothing but jet skis and ski boats (they have a right to be there, just not big enough to share), and people that have no clue about launch and dock etiquette.

Good to know.  Liberty Lake is so close that i was thinking i could fish there when i only had a few to do so.  I will rethink that when the idiots start showing up.

That Liberty Lake launch is the absolute worst design in the history of boat launches.  Yes the people that go to LL for the most part need help in boat laiunching techniques however the launch design is horrid.  It was a thousand percent better when it was dirt with two launches.  And the fishing pier if you can call it that is a joke.  Good fishing from a boat especially at dusk in the SE corner pocket.
It's a TIKKA thing..., you may not understand.

Ya, the design is terrible, so too is parking. And that would lead to the #1 reason I get pissed about that place, people parking in trailer stalls without trailers. And b/c WDFW is stretched thin and can only cover so much ground, I personally have never seen enforcement - and I've spent HOURS out there.

There are a lot of lakes that are close and less of a zoo when it warms up. bass2elk, where you located at?

I refuse to fish on that lake. Everytime someone talks me into going there I leave pissed off.

That's too funny. I haven't refused it altogether, but I've sworn it off a week before Memorial Day.

I just wanted to catch something other than a rainbow. I like rainbows but also enjoy a trout variety. The wind was nasty at the launch as it was blowing right into the launch. I had to get in the water up to my belt to push the boat around to get it on the trailer. Lets just say it was hard to take a whizz till I warmed up. That water was COLD! Parking and launch design is one of the worst i have seen.
