Looking for new boots
« on: March 15, 2011, 03:32:04 PM »
In the market for a new pair of hunting/hiking boots.  I currently have the Meindl teton II hikers and really like them except my feet get to hot in them.  I believe they're 400 gram thinsulate.  What are some suggestions for boots you guys use (pros and cons) as well would be helpful.  Thanks.

If you're willing to drop the cash, Kennetrek Hardscrabbles or Lowa Baffins are good choices.  Both come in uninsulated models, and a non gore tex model will make them breathe a lot better.  The Lowa glove liner is extremely comfortable.

Try on lots, I cannot wear Kennetreks but Lowas fit me great.  Good luck.

If you like Meindles then the Alaskan Hunters are a great boot.  My little brother uses them and he LOVES them.  They are 200 grams insulation I believe.  I've also heard great things about the Meindle Perfekts Hunters.  If you want Non-Insulated then the Alaskan Hikers or Perfekt Hikers would be a good boot as well.  If you don't mind dropping some coin the Lowa Tibet GTX's are an AWSOME boot that wins awards every year.  They are also non-insulated.  Right now their boots are 15% off.  And if you sign up  (Its free) you get another 10% off.  Normally they are $350.00 but you can get them for $277 to your door.  (Free shipping)

Ive heard great things about the Lowa Rangers as well.  Again sign up and get 20% off Normally they are $290.00.  But with the sale they are to your door for $234.

Try doing a search as there have been 3 different boot threads done in the past year.

No problem man.  Good luck.  I was doing the same searching.  I decided to get something with a little bit of insulation so I went with the Lowa Hunter GTX.  They are the same exact boot as the Lowa Tibet GTX but an inch taller and with 200g of insulation.  They are a $399 boot and got them to my door for $287.  So far I really like them.
