WA deer hunt on TV tonight
« on: March 16, 2011, 03:14:18 PM »
I heard on the Sportsman Channel tonight at 8:30 that Northwest Hunter is airing a 2010 WA deer hunt.  Don't know much info.......

Hmmmm, this is probably Zach that hunted at the same time my father did with the newer sponser Tanglewood Guides. They were in camp at the same time as us. Nice guy. Spoiler alert...he shoots a nice little mulie!

Oh, I figured he might be hunting with OVGS again since he's killed some pretty nice muleys with them.  Should be fun to watch anyway!

The bucks on the tanglewood guide website are small.  There are better bucks on public ground.

The size of a buck is by no means a reflection on the quality of the hunt.

I guess it depends on your expectations in paying alot of money for a guided hunt.   Option 1  Finding a Good to Great mule deer, getting the buck mounted and putting meat on the grill.   Option 2-  Finding a small to dink  buck, meat on the grill and sitting around the camp fire drink hot coco.  Just saying  :IBCOOL:

Having taken my dad on a hunt with Tanglewood and being 100% satisfied with the results and having talked with the owner of Okanogan, nice guy as well,  (who knows Oren of Tanglewood personlly) I'm sure it will be a nice show either way. From my experience (thread jack?) I think most of the outfits in east wa have a good relationship and have different things to offer.

How many have you had experiences with, and also, what does tangelwood offer that OVGS doesnt?  Not to poke, but I'm confused.

My experience has been hunting once and talking a lot. One of the main difference I know between Okanagon and Tanglewood is volume of hunters and accomadation. I believe OK does lots of wall tents as well as other and TG does mainly ranchhouse in much smaller numbers. I know for a fact from talking with clients and Jerrod that his hunters are very well taken care of by means of eats and tent stuff and his success rates are very good. Better than very good if you consider the number of hunters he has in the field. You can look up my thread on what I was looking for and why I chose Tanglewood. From talking with both outfitters and many others via phone, email, and shows there are others, some sponsers of this site, that I would gladly pay for the experience of hunting with them and be please with just about any deer I shot during the hunt. If I am to hunt with an outfitter I would decide on what factors are most important and base my choices accordingly. I am new enough to hunting that I would view a guided trip a success if I had a good time, learned something new, hunted as hard/easy as I wanted, met good people, and was successful in the end.

Oh yeah, the show tonight is with Okanagon and the dad is the shooter. In April they will air the show with Zach, the son, doing the shooting with Tanglewood.

I know both Zach and Pat well. They are always in a booth next to my booth at the sportsmans show in pdx. Good guys, I always like bs'in with them.

Everyone is a little diffrent in one way or another. I know a lot of east side WA guides and Outfitters. They are all a little diffrent. Lets just watch the show and enjoy. P.S. I have seen there WA film for that hunt ;)

How about back to the main attraction?

The show was with OVGS and was Pat hunting. He killed a 4x4 buck with one of Gibbons' guides. Not a huge buck but a nice one, maybe 140 or so to my not so good field judging skills....

I signed up for the channel that show is on by itself on DISH for I think either $1 or $3 a month. Just that channel.

Go to Dish's website, create an account and look into modifying your programming. It's there somewhere. It's either 395 or 396. One is the Outdoors Channel and one is the Sportsmans Channel. I think 395 is Sportsman's Channel. If I had to pick 1, that's the one I'd pick. I added it, like I said, just for a couple bucks a month.

Good Show, I was very surprised they aired it with no kill shot.  I actually enjoyed seeing a true spot and stalk.  Things don't always go as planned and they rarely show that on these hunting shows.  Makes a guy wish it was fall....

DeerHarvester...you moon lighting on us under an assumed name  :dunno:??? What do they pay you for an episode with no kill shot? Maybe next fall you can just run around with your camera and film the recovery after the kill, and we can make up whatever you would like to see for the stalk :chuckle:. Just kidding, I know what you do and with that job, hunting , and fishing there is no time for filming. :chuckle: :chuckle:

BTW you ever convince you Wife to get a pup? Looking to do some chukar hunting over there this fall, it would be nice to have a updated report prior to making the drive .

I've known Oren for a long time, and he is a very good fellow as is his whole family.  Also know Jerrod from fishing on the Icicle river for springer's.  Oren's grandpa was one of the best bear and cougar hunters on the West Coast.  He had and maintained some of the best hounds anywhere.  Had a blast hunting with him when I was growing up and learning.  I do know Oren works very hard for his clients during, before and after the season.

Sorry for the thread jack....

I thought it was a pretty weak show. Could have been produced better for sure.

Birdguy,

Your right about the limited time I have in the woods. I don't bring a camera or guide people, I have a lot to learn before I get to that point.  There's a few guys on here that know brien so they know it's not me.  No I have not got a new pup yet.  Were still looking for a new house.   Look me up prior to coming over for chuckars.  I may be able to line something up and would love to go if you bring your dog over.  Right now I'm stealhead fishing and getting excited for gobblers.

Will hunt for food.

well it was a true spot and stalk and i was suprised they put it together as well as they did with the footage they had. the cam guy double punched the record button at the time of the shot. :bash: its too  bad becouse it was such a real hunt unlike alot of stuff u see on tv and things dont go as planned. Pat is a great guy and a damn good shot dispite not showing the kill shot it was a great hunt!

Deerharvester, I will certainly look you up prior to heading over, and I would gladly welcome you on a hunt with us. Good luck in the house search, there is more for sale each time we go over there, hope you find just what you are looking for. Just so you know I am looking at a litter that should be here early next winter for another pup. Let me know if you want to make a reservation. They have been seeling out litters waaaayyyy in advance. My male is over there now and the litter he is fathering was sold out before I even sent the dog over.
