The deer down here tend to congregate at certain elevations each year.  Once you invest the time in finding good areas they seem to produce each year.  I picked up sheds a couple weeks ago that I have horns from the last four years all within about 1/4 mile of each other. I bet I average a mile of walking per shed but the area I search is pretty thick in places the key is covering every inch of an area.

I find alot of my sheds by just hiking around and getting lucky, but it seems like the dog is starting to get better than i am. I still got another month or so before i get into the good spots. Theres just to much snow on the roads and i aint got a sled.

I picked wander aimlessly, but really that's what I did before my ticker went south on me.  I have an eye for them, though, I have probably picked up 200+ antlers that I spotted from a vehicle over the past 20 years.  Hardly ever find browns that way, but I'm good at seeing a little flash of white and deciding it's a tine.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
