group of bulls
« on: March 20, 2011, 01:27:03 PM »
So a buddy of mine and I were out hiking yesterday with our dogs and about a mile away on a hillside we spotted a bachelor group of 8-9 branch antlered bulls. We were talking about how cool it would be to find some of their sheds. Any recommendations on when we should head up in there to see if we can find any bone?

If I were you I would keep a eye on them from as far away as possible. Then wait till most have dropped, it will be soon, I hope. Try and pick a day after you've seen them bald and when there not there. Remember don't go to early or you will scatter those bulls and the concentration of antlers will not be as good. Also remember your not the only sportsman who knows those bulls. Pretty tricky to try and pick the right day. Good luck to you.

That is a good point shedstud. I was thinking about that last night and how I wouldn't want to get in there and push them out but at the same time, I don't want to wait too long and have others find them before us. No matter what it was awesome to see a group of bigger bulls together and I sure hope they were all able to spread their seed this fall!

There are a few watching folks keeping an eye on em. I would guess they will be pushed up into the lower part of north fork before they drop em all. After the first bull drops folks go after em and push up higher and higher. But keep watching them you might get lucky ;)

Antlerking, what do you mean a few folks watching them and north fork? Are you saying you know what elk I am talking about?

Not at all just saying from past experiance the bulls tend to move up alittle after folks are out and about, so try to focus a little higher from were you have been watching them. :)
