A Good Bye To A Best Friend
« on: March 21, 2011, 12:05:04 PM »
I dreamed the day would never come, that I would have to say good bye to her. My 14 year old lab passed away this morning. Her name was hazel. Out of all the labs, me and my family have had. She was the best,smartest, most loyal dog. She has touched more then just my life. Several members on here have pups from her daughter and her lines. I was blessed to have her in my life and she will always be missed. As I laid her to rest today. I was saying my good byes, and for the first times in years. I heard a pheasant cackel out in the grass hay field, in front of our house. I looked up to see a beautiful rooster about 50 yards away walking threw the field. It has been years since I have seen a rooster here on our home place. Were he came from I don't know. But it was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life. Like he was paying his respects to a great bird dog. Here is a few pictures from over the years.

R.I.P Hazel you will always be missed.

Sorry to hear about your loss Carp!! Thoughts go out to you and your family. They are definately another member of the family. Well you have to know you gave Hazel someof the best times doing what she loved to do more than anything. Be safe as she is keeping an eye on you and yours.

Sorry to hear about your loss.  Losing my lab was one of the worst days of my life, but every once in a while when I'm pheasant hunting I'll get a big smile on my face knowing she's up there watching over me.  I have her collar and her picture on a plaque on my wall to remember her- it has helped me tons over the years since I lost her.

Sincere condolences to your family. I have a hunting dog named Hazel also, she is my pride and joy. I hope you can find another K-9 companion that brings you great joy. Safe journeys for your dog to the great hunting field in the sky.

Matt I am sorry to hear about your loss.  Our lab is a member of the family.  Should something happen to him, I will not get another lab.  I don't think that I could even come close to a replacement.  If you have time and feel up to it, give me a call tomorrow night   Again, sorry about your loss.

 The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
then you must do what must be done
For this, the last battle, can't be won.

You will be sad, I understand,
Don't let the grief then stay your hand,
For this day more than all the rest
Your love and friendship stand the test.

We've had so many happy years,
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
When the time comes, please let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend
And stay with me, if you can, to the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time, you will see,
It is a kindness you do for me.
Although my tail its last was waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Don't grieve that it should be you,
Who must decide this thing to do,
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Smile, for we walked together for a little while.
