Question
« on: March 22, 2011, 07:27:58 PM »
Is there such thing as an either sex tag? I hear a couple of older fellas (dad and father in law) I hunt with always talking about applying for one but then come time for the season they always say they didn't get them for one reason or another. Also I've heard that you can apply for a cow permit and still shoot a bull? is that the case or is that a special permit? How would I apply and what's the deadline? Can't seem to find a straight answer on the WDFW website.

Thanks for any clarification.
Some animals WERE harmed in the making of this Hunter. They were also dragged through the dirt, butchered and tasted delicious fried with butter and bacon.

Usually the permits are for antlerless animals but oftentimes they are during a general season in which bucks/bulls are legal. Maybe this is the case in what your dad and father in law are talking about.

Yes there is an either sex special permit, although there are very few of them. When looking at the elk special applications pages of the regs you will see a column titled legal elk as you scroll down this field you will find permits for cow, any bull, 3pt min, and any elk. If you put in and are drawn for the any elk permit then you can hunt "any elk". Scanning through last years regs there were any elk hunts in the Mudflow, Alkali, White River, Upper Smith Creek, and Mount Whittier.

Depending on season you hunt.... modern/muzzleloader/archery/..... GMU and or special elk or deer area.....  And or early/general/late....... Plus if you're a master hunter.... There is quite a few places where it would be "either sex"......   Which is now called "any elk" or "any deer".  Oh and it also depends if you got drawn for any special permits which are usually but not necessarily different then standard early/general/late seasons...  Spend a few weeks in last years regs....
