Seattle area charters
« on: March 24, 2011, 10:23:35 AM »
So my bachelor party is actually going to be a weekend trip to the westside.  Mariners game, fishing and some night life.  I'm trying to stay out of the planning process but my best man doesn't fish so he needs some input.  My knowledge is limited to saltwater.  Any suggestions on guides?  We will be over the 2nd weekend of August so not sure what is being targeted that time of year.  Thanks

Fishing in the sound is not really worth a guide as the fishery is so poor.  If your willing to drive out to the Ocean than that is a different matter.

We are willing to take a drive, I want to make the weekend worth it. There will be 6 of us so we need something organized.

Going out to Westport then is always a good time and nice drive.  I am sure there are plenty of folks here that will give advise on a specific guide service.  Take some time to walk around and check out Wesport and you will not be disappointed.

He said salt water so I assumed not the rivers.

The 2nd week of Aug is about the peak of the humpy run and there will be plenty of Kings around in Puget Sound but you may not be able to keep the kings.

Westport is hit or miss and has sucked more often than not.

We were hoping for a little bit of everything if possible.  Bottom fish and/or salmon.

Despite what other have said, Westport will be ROCKIN for silvers and Kings will be there too. Get on a good charter and you'll have a blast! King forecast for the Columbia river is excellent.
Mid Augest is getting late for Kings in the Puget sound. Silvers are expected to have a HUGE run though...

So from what I understand, bottom fish will be out of season and rock fish are off limits this year?  Sounds like Salmon only in August.

Just a word of caution on Westport-water down there does not lend itself well to a night of partying unless you know for certain that you don't get sea sick.  Group of 6 after a hard night of celebrating can have an extremely long day on one of the Westport charter boats.  Humpie year in the sound and August is a great time for them, Allstar charters does a great job (I'm not affilated in any way) and chances of spending the day "over the rail" are a lot less!!

Check out this Seattle area charter, besides Kings, Silvers and yes this is a Pink year these guys will also set crab pots on request. Early August should give you a nice mixed bag for a day on the water.

Highliner charters out of Anacortes, Bret is a nice guy and seems to keep pretty busy.  You'll also likely get to see Orcas where they are fishing for salmon.

You are right, the F'ing state will probably keep rockfish closed in the sound again this year.  It was only one fish/day anyways.

Westport has good fishing as well that time of year, but as mentioned weather can always be a factor.  There is a thread on Westport Charters.  Not sure you will be able to do bottomfish and salmon on the same charter.

Have fun and congratulations.

Yeah, time won't permit the drive to wesport so we are going to look for a guide in the sound.  Hoping they could throw out pots while we are out.
