Nooksack & White River
« on: May 21, 2008, 07:27:23 PM »
Does anyone know what the hunting is like in the Nooksack and White River areas for elk. I put in for the archery bull tag and have no idea about these two areas. Any info would help. I probably wont draw a tag anyways but I would still like to know. Thanks

The nookascks, Lumi, tulalip, just a few of the tribes that also are issued permits in that unit.

I did most of my hunting in that unit off of 410.  Just passed Greenwater about a mile on the right hand side of the road.  There is a gate.  Walk in and you'll cross over a large bridge.  There is a resident herd in that area, and you'll be surprised how close to the road they are.  Not sure how good it is now, since it is permit only, but I would take a look.

I use to hunt there allot. The Muckleshoots hunted the area out horribly. There are elk in there and the second growth areas. Most of the time during the General Rifle the elk were down in Crystal Village between the houses with all the orange standing around drewling at them.

Has that whole area gone to permit only?  Hunted off of FS70, 72, 74, 75 for years.  First place I ever saw an nelk when I was 8.
Taken lots of animals from that area over the last 30 years..........
Was thinking of Arhcery Elk there this year, but did not know it was permit only........guess I ned to red the regs now.

I think that is *censored* for the wdfw to make a draw permit for an area that is hunted out like you guys are saying. Isnt the purpose of the draw to have a quality hunt? That pisses me off. I will never put in for that one again. Guess I will just stick to the Margaret.

Remember, it's the internet......ha

I know nothing of the white river area so I can't speak to that situation but I can the Nooksack herd.

It's being rebuilt for the third of fourth time.  It now has huntable numbers, hence the permits which started last year.  Native and N.N. split the permit numbers.

One can only hope that the tribes can sincerely report accuratly to the WDFW what they take out.  That has been a thorn for many years.

I may be mistaken, but I know most of the NON native permit hunters got their animal last year.

If you draw, the Gamers are good about helping you with info as are several who live in the area here on Hunt WA
