smoked trout question
« on: March 26, 2011, 09:22:51 AM »
not a fish eater, so I don't know much about how to handle it... I can fry it and grill it for other people and that's about it.

if smoked trout is vacum sealed, would it be okay to send to someone in iraq?

Great question I would be interested in the answer to.  ;)
Hey! I'm not a complete idiot I have parts missing. Though sometimes I wonder.

I don't see why you couldn't.  An old neighbor of mine would take steelhead out to an Indian reservation to have them make Indian Candy for him.  I believe they would smoke it and basically make 'jerky' from it.  He would get it back in vacuum sealed packages...and I don't think they had to be eaten right away.

They need to be REALLY dry and cured prior to being smoked.

:yeah:  Drier the better.  Mold and bacteria don't like dry and definitely vacuum pack it.  Probably better to make him some venison jerky, I sent some to Watzhunt in JP for Christmas.

+1

Smoked and vacuum packed fish still has to stay cool or it can spoil. Canned would be better to ship.
