Gear Reviews?
« on: January 02, 2014, 01:14:43 PM »
Hey guys! Now that Christmas is over it's time to look for the gear that I need that I didn't receive as a gift. I can read til I am blue in the face but I trust you guys more so in real use of these products and am curious what your thoughts are.  Money is tight and everyone wants to get the most for their money.  So if a couple of you could take the time to give me your suggestions I would appreciate it! Thanks guys

First questions is about a GPS.  I have read on here and I was looking at the Garmin 60CSx and I found one for $150.  Seems like a good deal and it's not used much.  I have never owned or used a gps to I just want to double check that this one is good and he is also selling a map pack for an extra $50

http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-MapSource-Topo-U-S-100K/dp/B000RAASFK

I was curious if I will need that map pack if i plan on buying the Hunting GPS map SD card?  Any info on this would be great.  Thanks

Second question would be about these boots

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Footwear/Mens-Footwear/Mens-Hunting-Boots/Mens-Uninsulated-Hunting-Boots|/pc/104797980/c/104747580/sc/104826780/i/105543180/Danner-High-Optifade-Concealment-Forest-Ground-Hunting-Boots/1624446.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fmens-uninsulated-hunting-boots%2Fdanner%2F_%2FN-1102520%2B1000003197%2FNe-1000003197%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_105543180%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104797980%253Bcat104826780%26WTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104797980%3Bcat104826780%3Bcat105543180

I have read all kinds of reviews everywhere. both good and bad.  Was looking for some real washington weather wear and tear on them.  I owned a pair of Lowas for hiking before I got into hunting but those are 8 years old and started leaking this year while out hunting.  I am trying to get a good waterproof boot for under $200 hopefully.  Of course willing to spend more if its gonna be well worth it.  I don't believe i need any super insulation seeing as that my feet are almost always warm if they are dry.  I am not a big sitter... always on the go in the woods.  Again any info or suggestions would be good.  Thanks.

Last question would be for some quiet rain proof hunting pants.  I currently have weak sauce walmarters that get wet easily and have no belt loops which i want.  I was looking at goretex for sure.  These pants in particular... at least I think it's these... i looked at some in the store that were $180 and gore tex

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-MT050-GORE-TEX-Quiet-Pack-Pants-mdash-Regular/1224692.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dgoretex%2Bpants%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts&Ntt=goretex+pants&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products

I don't have many other options as far as a good pant goes so suggestions would be good if these aren't that great.  Sorry for all the crazy long links!  And again I appreciate anyones time they take to give me a response.

Doug

As for the boots, don't skimp out on a $200 budget, if you feel a $200+ pair will be better (which they will).  As far as the GPS goes, that's a good GPS.  Not particularly my choice, but a very good one.  I would definitely not buy the map pack if you plan on getting a Hunting GPS Map card. :twocents:

Just noticed a Garmin 450T GPS for sale in the classifieds on here for a great price.  Personally, I'd jump on it. :twocents:

Thats an outstanding GPS and at that price, a steal. I would scoop that up if I were you. They don't make them anymore and are sought out by many. I bought mine for $220.00 years ago. Now $500.00 is the norm if you can find a new one.

Here's one
