Spring Bear Hunt

Hey i'm new to the site. I am wondering if anyone can point me in a direction for my spring bear hunt. I live on the west side and have drawn a Dayton spring bear tag. I am trying to do as much scouting from home as I can do as it's a six hour drive from home. Any help is welcome. Thanks

have fun you have a great tag. spend your gas money-wisely.  it is a long hall . i have wenaha and i don't plan on going until the end of may. but your unit will melt out long before mine.

The wenaha tag is my favorite, I've had it 3 times and killed 3 bears. One blonde and 2 blacks seen multiple browns and blondes.  As far as the dayton tag goes, benchleg is correct in telling you to wait for the melt off.  You would just be waisting gas to go too early, I also wait till the end of May to go. Have fun and hunt the snow line where it's greening up, look for wild onions. I would assume they have those in the dayton as well, Thats what we look for in the wenaha.

Got a little excited and headed over to Dayton opening weekend myself.  Once you hit the Umatilla, you hit snow.  We were snowed out of most of the public land.  We plan on waiting until the end of the month.  We did, however, find some nice patches of wild onion sprouting.  The only sign we found was day old tracks of a sow and cub in the snow.  Wish I would have bought a turkey tag.  Saw several just off of the few Forest Service roads.  (the ones that we could drive on...damn snow!)

Bud! If you love to hunt, snow dont matter! Just get up there and find that BEAR that is sick of sleeping. That is what the hunt is all about!!!
