Often within a couple hours of trees being dropped they will come in an eat the green bows

Im sure in the winter the elk will eat the tops of the trees that have fallen, but dont you think they go after the grass versus the boughs during the fall?

Ive been told by numerous loggers that its like clockwork...at the end of the logger's shift, the deer and elk will then move into the fresh cuts everyday

The majority of my extended family are loggers in one form or another (equipment operators, truck drivers, rigging crew etc...) and they carry their rifles in the equipment they run and many of them have shot deer, elk, bear, cougar, etc... right from the comfort of their drivers seat then just walk the equipment over and pick up the critter, gut, skin, and put it right in the truck and then continue to finish working !!

Year round. They love boughs.

How do you all know this? You are not supposed to be in active logging areas :chuckle:

They also like the moss that grows on the trees. Deer for sure seek it out. you will see them chowing down on it after/during windy days, and just after trees being cut down.
A friend of mine used to swear that his best deer call was a chainsaw, we have harvested many animals while out getting wood for camp.
I also really like how quiet you can be on all the fresh earth the equipment stirs up, compared to the rest of the woods during season, and where I used to hunt they logged from around 2:30 AM until about 11:00 AM because of the fire danger, and after the workers left, we would go check it out, always fresh tracks, and in the evening....

Deer really go for the black moss from downed trees.  I have had deer come up and feed on moss from branches that I had cut 20 minutes earlier directly below my treestand.  I had a couple of bucks come in so fast that I couldn't draw back my bow to get a shot.  They ate every bit of moss off of the branches and left directly behind me.  Talk about frustrating!  :bash:
