Idaho road trip
« on: May 23, 2008, 06:14:28 PM »
Ill start by saying I am not a good photographer!!!!!! We went to Idaho to scout some areas for hunting in the fall. My dad and I had a great time and are definatly going to go hunting there in the fall. The weather and flooding did not help our cause but we still managed to see some animals. These first few are in unit 4 outside of St Mary's along the St. Joe river.

we took a logging road and parked where we could take a walk.5 minutes into the walk we spot a bear. He is on the move.......take my camera out to take a picture and left the lens cap on!! Son of a.....! Got a shot of fur behind a bush. He disappeared. Waited for 15 minutes.....nothing. Some elk showed up below where we saw the bear. took a few pics. then the bear came out of some thick stuff on the move. I was happy to get a shot of him in the frame. I didnt have a mono or tripod so I wasnt sure If id get a decent pic of him. This is only the 2nd bear ive seen in the wild. It sure seemed big to me!!

We waited a bit to see if he would show himself again but he didnt. We started walking again. I saw what I thought was another elk on the far hillside at first. It was really a tan color. It was a mule deer doe. She had a buck with her. You cant tell by my *censored*ty pics but he was already even with or outside the ears.

On our way out we saw 2 white tail bucks that looked like that looked like they were going to have good horn growth. The were very thin and ragged looking. We basically had their escape route cut of and they were trying to scramble up a rock wall. We were worried they were going to get hurt so we quickly drove off without taking pictures of them.

Here are some more crappy pics!!! LOL! I sure have fun taking them. The turkey was funny! we were 300 yards away behind some trees just on the edge of a pasture. Right when we spot him he spots us does about 5 circles running as fast as he could then ducks out of sight. Man they have great vision! The hawks must have had a feast! the fields were just starting to flood so im sure the rodents were running for their lives! The group of deer were just outside of grand coulee. The last one is a small buck. The other pictures are when we were dorking around the potholes.

No those were mule deer. I didnt get a shot of the white tails. and jack it  was a whole bunch of fun. We left a day early because of the flooding. I would have liked to have spent more time there.
