You NEVER know!!!
« on: April 04, 2011, 04:26:44 PM »
Alright, so i thought it might be cool to hear some stories of some bucks that were takin in spots that u usually never see bucks or very many deer at all, ill go first, about 3 yrs ago, my bro and i have a spot that HE LOVES to hunt, its a quick little draw on the edge of a wheat field, and we have hunted this canyon that it feeds into for 20 yrs and i kid u not, in those 20 yrs we have hunted this spot, we have seen maybe 5 bucks(NO 3pts or bigger) all 2pts or spikes, its always full of does, but for some reason he LOVES huntin that spot, so i always kinda tease him when we hunt it, i always say "oh boy i cant wait to see the 20 does were about to jump" or some smart remark, well im always right.....until 3 years ago, he went in the middle of the week with a buddy of his, and i couldnt make it cuz of work, well long story short, he calls me tellin me he shot a nice 3 pt, and im like "where?" and hes laughing and says "in MY spot" lol i couldnt help but laugh, so NOW hes always remindin me its his spot when we scout, or hunt hahaha

Last season spike.

This guy was playing hide and seek with me for three days. I had seen him twice but lost him in the fog once and the next time he was with about 30 cows. Try finding a spike mixed in with 30 cows in deep dark forest. it was a pain in the butt. On the third day I had him pegged on where he was hanging out in the morning. Well he seen me before I seen him and he took off running through heavy trees, He was at a dead run when I shot. But as I let the rifle down I was in disbelief that he was not down, and he came to a complete stop. I yelled WTF?, reloaded and as I did he was off on a dead run again..... BOOM one more time and dwon he went.... Didnt find out till we were skinning him that my first shot pierced his ear...
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

Well I was really suprised to find this guy on Veterans day. Not because of where he was but because we had already killed 5 bulls in this patch of timber that week...  cell phone pic.

Wow 5 bulls in one patch of timber on the wetside? That is a pretty darn good season in camp in my opinion!

Two years ago I was driving outside of Colfax with three of my kids when my youngest son yelled "Dad, look at that huge dog!" I glanced over into a wheat field and there was one of the biggest black bears I had ever seen. I slammed on the brakes, threw my truck into reverse, and stopped to watch as this boar meandered through the green wheat without a care in the world!

I sure wish I had my camera with me that day but never thought to grab it since it was just a meaningless drive between Clarkston and Colfax. The idea of seeing a big bear on that stretch of highway never crossed my mind! I'll say this, a large jet-black boar wandering through the bright green wheat was a sight to behold. One of the coolest things I've ever seen.

This was my first elk. I shot it in 2005 in the bethel unit. I had hunted hard in some deep dark timber seeing elk every day but not the spike I needed. One day I walked up on the hill right behind camp while my brother and dad were finishing lunch and ran into this guy not 200 yards above camp. I think he was there because nobody was spending any time up there. Needless to say it was an easy haul out! Basically rolled him to camp.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.
