lost my best friend tonight
« on: April 16, 2011, 10:47:17 PM »
so I am at work and my wife calls crying. I ask what was wrong and she tells me her and my 18 month old son were out playing with my bird dog and best friend and my son threw a ball. doing what he does best he went after the ball just as some a$#hole came speeding by. The SOB hit my dog and just kept driving. I got Gunner at 8 weeks old 8 years ago. god help the prick who hit him if I find out who it was.....RIP Gunner you will be missed and never forgotten.....sorry to sound so sappy but needed to vent :'(

Sorry to hear a story like this.  I lost a lab to a hit and run several years ago when I was school age.  Still miss her.  Tough way to lose a dog...

Very sorry to hear. Hopefully your son is young enough to forget such a tragic event soon.

Had a similare experience, except I was the one driving.  Dad's feeding the cows across the street with the family dog and as I'm driving by mom and the kids pull into the house.  Well, the dog just blasts under the fence to greet the family and I don't even have time to get my foot off the gas pedal.  By the time I get stopped, dad's on one side, mom and the kids on the other, all staring in disbelief at their dog laying in the road.  One of the worst feelings I have ever experenced, but not a whole lot I could do.

I must admit, my first thought was to get out of there, as I didn't want a big confrontation with some guy because I accidentally ran over his dog... but I put it in reverse and started back.  He must have had pity on me as he saw me coming back, because he just waived me on... sucked though!

I feel your pain  :'(

I too lost my best friend Hemi, two years ago by a car speeding down the road. The whole family was devistated for weeks.
Keep your chin up, and be thank full for the memories you have made while he was a part of your family.

Very sorry for your lose. Our dogs are so much part of our family. And great companions in the field. Nothing better than watching your buddy work with that tail just wagging.

That is why I have a fenced in yard. No way i am taking that chance.

Sucks the tard drove away......but they were probably pretty freaked.

None the less.....remember the good times that your buddy and you shared. That can never be taken away.

Cry and smile..........we are.

I can't F[_]CKING stand a$$hole pricks who do such things like this. :bash: How do you hit a dog and just keep driving like nothing happened? I hope there is a hot, dirty place in hell just waiting for this prick. My condolences to your loss and I hope you find your next best friend to help fill the void made today.

Sorry for your loss.  I had the same thing happen to my black lab a long time ago, but at least the guy was man enough to help bury her & apologize.  I also ran over my friends dog last year & it is one of the worst feelings.  I helped him dig a hole so we could bury the dog before his grandkid got home from school.  Don't worry, that prick will get his payback.  in the meantime, give ol' Gunner a first class goodbye.  RIP Gunner.
