Calling all large mouth.
« on: April 05, 2011, 09:31:24 AM »
Anybody catching any bass or attempting to catch bass on the westside yet? This will be my first spring in WA and I'm wondering when the Large mouth start biting. I hear there's a couple decent ponds on JBLM, any truth to this?

If not now it should be soon. I've caught lm from feb-nov here on the wetside. The good thing about right now is if you do catch one its more than likley gonna be a pig. Don't know about ponds on jblm but I think most lakes/ponds on the wetside would have them.

I dont know about JBLM, but I have fished a lot of lakes in the King, Pierce, Thurson area, smaller ponds will have them hitting the beds already, larger waters more towards the end of month-April and May.
Good pre-spawn activity, if you are fishing from shore and walk up to water and you might see some wakes from them hanging tight to shoreline, I know a kid who "poke-poles" into some thick shoreline bushes and gets quite a few.... First time I saw him do it I thought he was after frogs, until he hooked a 5#er  :chuckle:

the ponds you will find on JBLM, do not have any size to the bass that will be in there. Chambers has bass but a lot of small ones. Sequilchew (spelling) used to have monsters in it. But someone figured that out. And it was literally fished out in a year, all being caught and eaten. The marsh on the back side on east gate road is a hard area to fish, they are there but you gots to find em.  The other small ponds like cat I have been to but hard to get into those areas. Get a float tube if you want to fish them...

Thanks for the advice. I just got back from Yakima Training Center and have the next 8 days off. Hopefully I'll be able to make the bast of it and catch some fish. Or maybe try my hand at turkey hunting. I've always wanted to try it out. We'll see....just glad to be out of the field. :IBCOOL:
