Not a duck guy...I mean, I know a mallard and the wood duck, etc...but couldnt tell you what this guy is. Anywho, he was swimming by and I snapped some quick shots. Enjoy~

Looks like a Common Merganser. Very cool bird. Looks like piggy back time for the kids

Merganser
Yup....
Funny story. Back when I was in high school a buddy and I were duck hunting the P.O. River in Idaho. We were heading back to the car (after shooting a limit I'm sure
) and this guy flags us down. So we motor over to him on the bank and he's all excited. He asks us to go pick up 3 Redheads he just shot. We say sure..... as we approach the first 1 it's clear it's a mergy. We pick up his three trophy mergies and deliver em to him. "Sure nice ducks mister." Wonder how yummy those buggers were

cool pics. i think i got three last year. ate one. didnt taste too bad. havent quite mastered waterfowl cooking yet either. 2 of the ones i got were right next to the stilli so those were definate salmon killers.
heres a thread, some opinions, laughs, etc

I can't imagine they taste good but I've never eaten one either. I'm not a big fan of duck anyway. I can really tell when a puddle duck has been eatin worms or other critters as opposed to vegie matter. I think I'll just have to take your word for it
