300 H&H Magnum
« on: April 07, 2011, 06:38:46 PM »
I have a 300 H&H Mag I'm gonna start shooting and hand loading for here pretty soon but I would like some opinions on the type of powder to use, and bullet weight.

Here is the load data I plan on following

http://www.nosler.com/Reloading-Data/300-HH-Magnum-165-Grains.aspx

I planned on using Accubond 165 Grain 30/.308, CCI 250 primer, Remington brass, and 67 grains of H380 powder.

But once again I would like an opinion on how these guns shoot, more accurate with higher muzzle velocity or heavy bullet but lower muzzle velocity.

I load 68.0grs. of H4831sc with 180gr. Remington Bronze Point bullet and 66.0grs with a 200gr. Nosler 200gr. Partition bullet. Both Load using CCI 250 Mag. primer. Both loads are accurate in my Remington model 721.
Nothing like a Remington model 700xcr.

My Nosler Manual says that H4350 is the most accurate powder tested and 70 grains is the most accurate load tested.
It is a 93% load and gives you 3168 FPS.  H380 is only the 4th fastest with 6 other powders being faster including H4350.
The fact that Nosler States that H4350 is the most accurate powder tested, that is the way I would go If the 165 Accubond is your choice, and it is a good first choice in my opinion. Keep in mind however not every rifle likes every powder or bullet.

Ya know, I used to load for a pards pre 64 H&H years ago, useing 180 Ballistic Tips, and either  Hodgon or IMR 4350? I'll see if I have it in one of my manuals. Great round, not too picky. Whats your H&H? Later

You may want to check the thread Rob has going in the "other" section. He seems to know his big bore very well and can probably give you some good general advise when loading higher caliber rounds.
