Another Rare Visitor Today
« on: April 08, 2011, 09:41:33 PM »
Had to clear my head this afternoon, so I went to one of my hidey holes for a few shots, found this Scrub Jay, yes, in King County. I've never seen one north of Chehalis, Wa. and even in that area they are fairly uncommon.

I've seen them fairly frequently in the Grand Mound area, though not too far north of Chehalisw.

Nice photo.

Have you been seeing them there for many years? It seems like we have seen more north of our Mossyrock property in just the last two years.

I'm here in Centralia and they have been common for as long as I can remember.
They tend to be pretty annoying, especially to other smaller birds.

Saw them starting back in '95 or so when I moved to that area.

Looks like they've been expanding their range to the north and east since the '70's. I saw this one 30 mi NE of their year-round range, much closer than I imagined.

They have been in North Tacoma for at least 2 years now. Cool birds.
