Kapowsin nightmare
« on: April 08, 2011, 10:00:10 PM »
Well I just drove up to Orting and picked up my permit, It seems they only take money orders or cashier checks so if you live a ways away you might want to do the same if you want to hunt on the 15 th. Still no sign from WDFW but i am going anyway no matter what!  Besure you read all the rules!!! There are more than you can believe. Took several days before I talked to a human, Think I'll give this one shot than next year you will find me back out in the real back country! No headaches/ No worries/ No fee's just me and nature.

Sounds like a far amount of people are upset with Kapowsin and other timber companys about some of the rules. Next year they should check out the area before they put in.

rasbo I think those of us that spend $350 a year shoud have first shot at those tags. Dont like the fact someone can draw a tag and then spend $100 to hunt bear in an area i have spend $350 to hunt.

Yea I'm fed up with Kapowsin too.  Its a waste of a draw anyways, hardly any bears in there.  Definitley would recommend putting in for some of those other units!

Yeah, I think we should be able to buy exclusive rights to put in for special permits too!

The $350 is for a yearly pass the $100 is for Spring Bear season only(approx 2 months).  Still can't quite figgure out why that is unfair?   :dunno:  I think WDFW should include in the regs which Spring Bear Hunts have fees and which don't.

If I lived near Kapowsin and I want to hunt spring Bear close to home but don't hunt Kapowsin for deer and elk I am not going to pay $350 for a yearly pass so I can put in for a Spring Bear tag with the chance I might not draw and be out $350, or if I do draw, hunt spring Bear for 2 months.

 :yeah:

This pisses me off every year. People put in for tags, basically knowing nothing about the area then complain about having to pay, they don't hunt/pay which means those people who are willing to pay don't get drawn. Believe it or not but nobody is forcing you to apply for permits that you have no knowledge about.  :bash:

I wish everyone thought this way, then I would get drawn every year. I love it in there and see and photograph plenty of bears in there.

Be glad that you can still access the tree farm at all.  I don't think Hancock is to far off from shutting it down to the general public completely and this includes access permits. There has been talk within corporate (back east) to make it a hunting lease.

Sorry guys! Didn't mean to stir up so much talk, Rasbo  are you still interested in a person parking at your place? I was just planning on sleeping in my pick up but not many wide spots close by, It would even be worth 10.00 a night not having to go find a hotel far away.

I wish that there was a way that when someone gets drawn for an area  that they don't want to hunt like Kapwosin, that I could but their permit from them! Big Tex any way possible? I would be willing to pay a good penny for it.

No, and if there were everyone and their brother would just put in for permits for the sole purpose of selling them.  Draw odds would sink further into the toilet.

Ain't gonna happen here. I think the closest thing you will see is somehow having to buy the permit from WDFW within a certain time and if you dont pay up then the permit goes to an alternate. The problem is money really, how many extra draws and extra time would that take? Some states open up the left over permits to over the counter sales, I think it would be a great idea for here in WA, bring in more $, but don't think we will ever see it.

My fault for Bodangles drawing Kapowsin, I too put in for Kapowsin, it was my fourth choice and I encouraged him to put in for the same units.  Didn't expect him to draw his fourth choice.  Live and learn I guess.  Sorry for putting a damper on others hoping to draw that unit this spring.  Atleast he'll give'er hell to kill a bear there, not just eat the tag.  He's one hell of a bear hunter!  Looking forward to see what happens!

 :yeah:
I think we are getting closer every year to the big three (Snoqualmie, White River & Kapowsin) Hancock Farms being closed to public access thru the permit system. They sold some of the Kapowsin land to the Muckleshoots last year, some of the land in the Snoqualmie is now private property as part of the gravel pit property.

I got mine in the mail today, it is not the standard "green card tag" it is a piece of  white paper looks totally generic, but it works for me.

I called the wdfw this morning and Walt said the Kapowsin tags where sent out tuesday. I would check the mail again it should be there unless you live in eastern washington. Hope you get your tag before the season starts and good luck on the hunt.
If you want to make it,
you can't fake it,
