Swakane yields World Record Sheep
« on: April 09, 2011, 11:12:11 AM »
At the WDFW commission meeting yesterday it was announced that a California Bighorn Sheep taken out of the Swakane had just been confirmed to be the new world record. Is that old news?
I'd just like to remind everybody that it's about the hunting, not just the killing. In other words, it's about the total experience, the sport itself and the challenge involved. Bowhunting, done right, is a justifiable and honorable pursuit. Done for the wrong reasons, simply chalking up kills and seeking personal glory, it's taking away rather than giving back to a principled way of life that has to be experienced to be understood.  Yes it does, I've been saying that for years. Pisses me off, after putting in for multiple states for years, seeing how non residents get treated, then good old wa has no discrimination at all?

B&C/P&Y don't recognize cali ram/rocky ram...this sheep is an SCI world record Cali ram. To B/C and P/Y they're all the same.

Thats pretty cool, The first place I ever saw wild sheep was while hunting Deer up on Swakane, herd was in the same spot every time I hunted up there.
The biggest one I saw had a collar and tags on his ear, wonder if it was the same one......

Not sure when you were there deer hunting up there, but several years ago, the big guy was the one with the collar that you saw.  He was taken and i believe he was the state record cali up until Aaron got his monster last year.  I could be wrong.. help me out here guys if i am.

now i will never draw a tag. all the non-res will be chasing the dream. this state needs a cap. :twocents:
think about what you are saying!! the % of nonres tags is like 4% i mean really. you know you ccan also put in in other states. The money nonres put in is good for the hunters! most of them dont draw and pay for a Lic that they will never use. The most out of line thing you can say on here is that WA needs a cap!!!! Let me tell you if a cap comes it will affesct all hunters not jus thae out of state hunter! And that means you can really hope you dont grow old and pass before you draw. with that said suck it up and good luck!

Joebear, just to clarify, residents and non-residents do not need to buy a licence in order to apply for sheep, goat, or moose.  If you are drawn you have to buy the license.  For deer and elk you do have to buy the license and get a tag (basically they are making you choose a weapon) in order to apply.  This is a sore spot with me because I think if you have to buy a license for deer or elk in order to apply you should have to buy the license in orde to apply for sheep, goat, or moose too.  Non-residents can apply for $60 +/- for each of the OIL tags same as residents and non-residents.  At the very least they should have to front the license fees and get a refund if they are not drawn just like most other western states.   :twocents:
