Ive been looking at the Stealth Cam Prowler HD Scouting Camera but was wondering if it is reliable. any info would be greatly appreciated.

Personally I like the Bushnell Trophy Cam. Great pics, small and compact(not as easily noticed by thieves), and will run forever on 8 AA batteries.

Buy cheap. Most people just want to see animals and whether they are male or female. It also does not set you back when they walk away. amazon - 3 mp camera for 39.99

Anyone else have any input on this? I am looking to buy at least one trail cam and know that some of them can get spendy. Any suggestions on a fairly cheap decent cam?

I have two of the Tasco's that you can get for $40 each, and they work just fine for daytime pictures, but you'll be disappointed with the night pictures. The flash just doesn't have enough range. Mine have been working out pretty well for me though, because I have them in locations (bedding areas) where most of the activity is during the day.

I also have two Moultrie D40's and they work very well. The only downside is the size and they take 6 D batteries so they're pretty heavy. You'll get about 6 to 8 weeks out of the batteries which isn't bad. You can get the D50 at Cabelas for $80 (it's the same as the D40's I have except 5 megapixels rather than 4).

Try that Moultri IR 55 ($119). Its the gray one with bark texture. I got a 4 GB card and the battery lasts over a month. Very clear pics.

What are you looking to spend?

I recommend reading the reviews at chasinggame.com, cabelas and bass pro. Following are a couple cameras that sell for around 100 or less that have pretty good reviews.

Wildgame Innovations X6C: I bought this one myself and have been happy so far. Here is the review from chasing game: http://www.chasingame.com/index.php?id=171

Another cheaper cam that has higher percentage of good reviews on all the websites is the Primos Truthcam 35. The good thing about this camera is that Primos has great customer service: http://www.chasingame.com/index.php?id=155

The Primos Truthcam 46 cost a little more but also has decent reviews..(though I don't think as good reviews as the cheaper 35 if I recall)

Trying to keep it around 100 or so. Less is great if it's not a pos. I'm not opposed to spending a little more but if there isn't a need to spend 300 on a camera that could just get swiped off a tree I don't feel like spending that kind of money.

I would go with a Bushnell Trophy Cam($169 on sale for 8mp), or somthing with similar battery life. If you get a cheap cam, the batteries that you have to keep on replacing will eat up the money you saved in no time. My bushnell is at approx 5 months of use on my first set of batteries and they are still at full power.

I would also rec the trophy cam. Great quality, small and compact, good pics/vid day and night, long battery life. HOWEVER.....get a box for it to deter theft and keep it from the damn bears. Here is a link for one that was recommended to me. Once I get mine back from Bushnell (see my threads for story) I will be buying a bear box for it.

I have moultries,wildview,tasco and bushnell...so far the moultrie line has been the longest lasting cam I have,but if your setting up on a trail u need to buy camera with fast trigger speed such as the cuddeback. I liked my Bushnell alot till last Dec and It would not take pics of deer 5 ft in front of cam,but take my pic?? and it messed up a few times when it was in the teens. The battery life of the cam is amazing and will pay for itself as compared to other cams that eat c or d batteries. I have 3 Tasco 5mp and they have been running a month and so far they work great.

I have bushnell trophy cams and primos truth 35 cams. I have only really used them in the back yard. Both take great pics I like the size of the trophy cam more because it is more compact. But the customer service of primos is a lot better than bushnell from what I've read. I would definitely stay cheap if you are going to be setting them up on public land. I have found primos truth cams on ebay or online for under a $100 pretty consistently.

I have purchased two of the Bushnell Trophy Cams.... I loved them...until they stopped working properly. One made it a 1 1/2 seasons...it was the first model (the 5mp). Last year I bought the 8mp and it didn't even make it through the season. At 170-220 a pop I won't be buying anymore.

i have 3 and really like them. the animals just need to be close to the cams at night and they take great pics. i vote cheapo tasco

So you have the cheap tascos? I saw your bull pics and if those are from a cheap tasco then I think I may pick up a couple of them. That way I can have then in different areas and if the bears or theifs get a hold of one then I still have another. I'm not looking for high quality stuff, just something that will tell me if there are good bucks in the area. From the looks of it your cheapos will be plenty good enough.

I have bought cheep camera's before and they barley last a season and pictures are not that great. I now have two of the cudde back 3.0 flash camera's and they are great. Battery life is great, easy to run and have lasted for 3 seasons so far.

Most $40-$70 cameras I have had last 1-2 seasons. For a Cuddeback to be more cost effective it would need to last 4-5 years minimum without breaking, getting stolen or destroyed by a bear. Just one loss would really hurt the cost effectiveness....That being said I do like Cuddeback and even bought one this year....and I worry about it every day... especially after my two $200 bushnells crapped out on me so quickly.
