holy crap that stinks!
« on: April 12, 2011, 10:07:41 AM »
I have a question for all you dog owners out there. Is there anything you do when your dog has really bad gas? Last night our chocolate had bad gas and it damn near peeled the paint off my walls. She didn't eat anything different than her usual food so I don't know what caused it. She gets gassy here and there but last night was brutal.  :puke: Do you have any remedies that you give your dogs? I couldn't even let her sleep in my room!

Yup, try a spoonful of plain yogurt mixed into her diet each feeding for a couple days.  Plain as in with acidophiles.
If this makes the stinky go away, take a fecal sample into your vet and have it tested for parasites.  If negative on the fecal, get blood test done for allergies.
Also, she may have just a simple tummy dislike for her food.  If it has anything over minimal grain content, look at switching.

I'd certainly do the fecal first though after the yogurt test.

How long has it been going on?  I just went through this issue with my dog. He had the worst gas I have ever smelt. At first I thought he got into something, but after 3 days of the odor, I called the vet and took him in (he was due for shots anyway).  Turned out, he had a "flu" like virus.  the only sign we noticed was the gas, no diareha, vomiting, still energetic, ect.  She gave him some antibiotics, and put him on a bland diet of : 2 hard boiled eggs, 1 cup plain yogurt, 1/2 cupt cottage cheese, and 1 Cup white rice.  Feed him/her this 3 to 4 times a day 9but do not exceed the normal feeding per day. if he ususally has 4 cups of dry food per day, keep him at 4 cups of the bland diet)  do so for a week...if that doesn't help, Id call the vet
