I am 17 years old and a brand new hunter, I don't know anyone that hunts.  I bought a bow last year and hunted two days for archery blacktail before suffering a terrible ankle injury from soccer that had me in a boot cast for a month.  If anyone would be willing to let me tag along on any archery hunting trips to show me the ropes I would appreciate it very much.  I am in fantastic shape as I run cross country for my high school as well as play soccer.  Hunting is a sport that really interests me but  I am finding it tough to break into being young and inexperienced.  Even if there is an invite for just a scouting trip I would love to go and gain knowledge about hunting and animal behavior.  I am from Vancouver, WA.

http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/prospects/  Click on districts 15-17 for the areas you're asking about.
Most of the elk that can be hunted for the areas you're asking about will be located on the western half of the peninsula.  There's some elk on the eastern half, but they tend to be permit.  The regs say kitsap is an any elk area, but I don't know when the last time an elk was seen in Kitsap.  624 has season, but they like to stay tucked away in the elk area and rarely wander out.  You can head out to the DNR land in 603 and work your way west and south through all kinds of DNR and Forest Circus land.  601,602, 603, 607, 612, 615, 618, 638 and 648 are all open and have some kind of land that is either FS or DNR.  Some units like 607 get bow and muzzy season before rifle and it can get a lot of pressure before you even start.

Thanks JimmyHoffa, that's what I was looking for.  Now that I have a starting point, I should be able to do some more specific searching and scouting.  I appreciate the direction.

Someone take this kid! If anything he would surely make a great packer!  :chuckle:

Hi Woods_Warrior,
Because you are under 18 your parents must approve for you to go hunting, will your parents agree to meet with someone and do you think they will allow someone to take you hunting?

Yah I think they would be alright with that, they would definitely want to meet the person beforehand, but I am pretty sure they would let me after that.

Just moved to the cda area in idaho but can travel to the eastern part of washington. Looking to deer and elk hunt. Spent the last 9 years living and hunting in alaska and can hike and carry a pack and not complain. I also have a 1754 gatortrax mudboat with a mud buddy 45 on the back if that could get us into some other spots. Also looking to do some waterfowl. I have a fully trained springer that is a great upland and waterfowl dog if someone wants to go that route. If your interested email me jason910910@gmail.com

I'll be hunting on the first day of (WA) modern firearm season and staying out till I get something.

I'm a first year hunter but have been scouting and will be hunting in OR with a 40 year hunting veteran on the first day of their season.

If anyone wants to join me or take me with them, then I would be very interested.

I'm in my late 30's.   In reasonable shape.   Have all equipment I'll need.

I would want to meet for coffee or something to make sure we are compatable to hunt together.

I'm locate in Vancouver, WA.

Looking for more hunting buddies and/or recommendations on where to go.

I will be hunting deer with modern firearms for meat.  I don't have much hunting experience and have yet to tag my first deer.  I do spend a reasonable amount of time camping outdoors, mostly dispersed camping (boondocking) in National Forests.  I live on the west side but am willing to hunt anywhere in the state.

I have one hunting buddy (we SCUBA dive together) but he hasn't been hunting in WA for 10-15 years, so we are scrambling last minute on deciding where to go.

My work is generally flexible so I can time time off here and there for scouting trips or week long hunts.   Yes I realize it is probably too late for scouting trips in 2014.

Anybody have an extra spot on a hunt we can join, or do you have a recommendation for GMU's to focus on?

Hi, I live near Bellingham (GMU 407) and I really want to hunt a deer with modern firearm next month.  I've purchased some maps and have been doing as much of internet research as I can but I'm still bit confused to where I can go.  There are so many different land owners (private, DNR, State, National forest...)  I'm used to hunting in SE Alaska where you just get out of the city limit and everything was ok to hunt on.  I'm looking for someone's secret spot.  I just want someone to point me to a general area that is open to public.  Any help I can get would be much appreciated.  Also, I am looking for a hunting partner because none of my friends here hunts.

Thank you.

After modern firearm hunting 388 for many years, we have decided that the deer are too far and few between, looking for a area that is not to up and down as hunter has heart condition, have quad if we could find somewhere he could ride.  Out of t he Battle Ground area, we usually like to camp for the week so if any one would have any ideas maybe we could come up with some kind of arrangement for all of us.  Thank-you for any ideas

Alright I'll bite on taking the kid. I played soccer in college.  I bow hunt and would be willing to do a late season archery hunt with you or take you up one of these nights and call a few bulls in for you.  Which high school do you play for.  Scott. I live in woodland

Hi everyone, I hate to be white noise, but I am also new to hunting and looking for a partner. I've been black bear hunting once this year, no luck though. I'm very interested in hunting some smaller things to start (grouse, small game, etc), but would love to graduate to deer or basically anything I can get my hands on. I'm a rifle/shotgun hunter, and I live in the Bothell/Snohomish area. Anyone willing to help me out and show me a few things would be much appreciated.

Hey all! New to the forum and have been living in WA since 2009. Haven't done much hunting because I'm not big on going solo. I live in the Skagit area and looking to see if there are any archery hunters that are looking to start a group or add someone to the mix. Thanks for you considerations.
