Anyone ever use the video mode?
« on: April 18, 2011, 08:30:26 AM »
For people that have trail cams with the option to shoot video, Do you ever use it? I have the bushnell trophy cam but have never used the video. If you use it Do you get good video? does it eat your batteries faster? Any videos you can post? If you use video can you somehow get still images at the same time?

I found that I like the video better. How often do you get pics where the angle is just not right? I set the video to about 30 seconds and always get good shots. With the Trophy cam I have left it out for months on video and not killed the batteries. Sometimes with just a snap shot it doesn't get focused just right. On video you will see it make changes and often will be a better and clear look at the animals as they turn their heads and show off the racks.

I have the Trophy Cam and used the video on it the second soak I had it.  Have not used it since.  Takes great video and if all you wanted was to have video, then use it.  But it does not give the date and time when the animals come in, and the reason I have Trail Cams out there is to try and pattern the deer, so using the video mode for me is pointless.  Now, if it had the date and time then I would use it exclusivly.  :twocents:

i keep my stealth cam on video. it keeps time and date stamp on all the time. i like it. i set my cam on trails where the elk are moving by and not hanging around. video lets me see the whole group, not just the first couple. it funny to watch the cows come up and check the cam out too.
hunt for the the challange of the hunt and the meat,  and it's always a trophey....poachers suck.

I have used my Bushnells on video mode all winter. I have a few minutes of a cougar, coyotes & deer as well as hours of footage of different bobcats. All on the same batteries.

Matter of fact I just put them out a couple weeks ago for bears and they still had full batteries, after running them from July to Nov for deer & elk and getting a couple thousand pics. The video & photo quality is not always the greatest with these cams, but the battery life is incredible.

I have used it on my moultrie, but what I found on my cam is the video mode can only use the internal memory. So I put both cams on a fresh cougar kill and got tons of picture of him but the only video I got was of a turkey vulture eating the fresh kill and then the memory was full when the cat came back. So I haven't used it since, but I want to upgrade so I am hoping the new ones have resolved that problem.

My camera also doesn't display the time or date on the video itself when played. I was able to get that information from the individual video files. On my computer I just right clicked on the files and checked the properties. The time and date the file was created is what you are looking for. As long as your time and date is correct in the camera you should be able to pattern away.

I plan to next time out. I've got lots of pics and would like to make a little vid with stills and video to show some folks that are nature lovers but don't care to see the business end of it all. All part of the fun. Also, my cam has a 4g card in it so shouldn't fill it up to quickly.

I have no problem with the date and time on my trophy cam video mode. When the video is complete it will be in big numbers across the screen. Just won't see it during the video.

I've never tried it, but by some of these responses I'll need to give it a shot.
