Olympic National Park
« on: May 27, 2008, 09:34:14 PM »
I got out for a "family camping trip" this weekend.  My wife gets annoyed at these trips as they are really my photo trips disguised as a family outing.  Anyways, we had a great time and saw everything from Hurrican Ridge, Marymere Falls, Shi Shi Beach, Second Beach, Rialto Beach, Ruby Beach, Beach 2-5, Hoh rainforest, Quinalt rainforest, some deer, and a bear.  Here are a few of the shots I had a chance to post.

Rialto Beach

Falls near Lake Quinalt

Lots of moss in this park...

Yet another no name waterfall

Big tree...small daughter!

I didn't get any pictures of the black bear or the blacktails I saw.  I actually didn't have a big telephoto so I missed a great opportunity with a black bear in a bright green field.  The blacktails didn't have horns so I guess I'll have to wait until fall time for them...

The best waterfalls I found were right on the road.  I hiked up to Marymere but it wasn't that spectacular.  The two best smaller cascading type falls I found were up past Lake Quinalt on the south shore road.  Where the loop connects to the north shore road is where there is a big field and the bear was out in that field.  I never did make it to Sol Duc Falls so I can't comment on them.

Great photos.

The falls look like the ones along the South Shore road.

You didn't happen to see the bear in Bunch Fields did ya? There is a whopper that hangs out there and we used to see him a couple times a year.

I have a few shots of Bunch creek falls too. Once, like *censored*es, we hiked straight up to Bunch lake using the creek as our path. 6 hrs later we arrived and were too tired so we headed straight back down.

Great shot of Rialto.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me to.

Great photos. I borrowed a nice camera once and tried to make nice photos. I failed miserably and went back to point and shoot. I was down in that region on Sunday.

Awesome pics Pope, every year we make the 101 loop drive and have to stop at "The Big Red Cedar" to get pictures. It started out as an annoying joke on my boys, but now they look forward to it, LOL.

Billy, I did see a bear but he was no whopper.  I dunno, I looked at him and he had big mickey mouse ears so I figured he was small.  His belly didn't sag at all and he looked like his legs were long.  Here is a small picture of him...
