25# on the left and 26# on the right...  Both with about 8 1/2" beards

Wow great stuff....  my very good I grew up with. He text me about his scary moment of his life.  True story.  He went up lake Rosev,  he listen and found area to settle and call him in 30 min later he heard very quiet funny sound behind Tree and he turn left crawl 2 ft saw a 100 lbs cougar lean down snarling at him with in 20 ft, he all sudden pull shotgun grab trigger pull off right side quickly and he adjust another load and cougar quickly back off ran out far appox 60 to 80 and disappeared and he told me that never never in his whole life saw this face that close...   :yike: he said he feel his heart came out after he grab shotgun last sec pull trigger.
It was very lucky of him my friend.

Hope it wont happen to anyone this year.  Keep ear wide open.  Maybe set a fishing string 40 ft tie tree to tree or something hold fishing string and tie middle with a bell sit on string above 2 ft and 30 yds behind tree.  so it will alarm u better. Or something better spot. Keep in ur mind. Just a safe idea.

Enjoy turkey hunting.

Yeah...I had a similar thought run through my mind as I sat by myself in the dark...thinking if "I'm attracted to this damn bird's racket...I bet anything furry with sharp teeth is too!...what the hell was that?!"

I had a cat visit me in the ONF who wanted my choc lab for dinner...having rip stop nylon (tent wall) and a snow axe for protection didn't give me much confidence!

Last year coyote hunting me and my brother were about 500 yards apart he was calling and i was just sitting there watching wait for a coyote to come in up through this draw were we usually see them. For some reason i look up at my brother in the binos and the rock cliff he was leaning against had a couger sitting right on top of it looking down at him i grabed my rife and clicked the scope to 500 yards i knew i would only have one shot to dump that cat so i held right on its head held a  breath and slowly pulled the trigger BAM!!!! couger drops my brother starts yelling at me he didnt even know i just dumped a cat 15 feet above him hahaha im glad i made that damn shot though  :)

In 2004 in Grass Valley, CA I had a cougar come in to my decoys before it got light. I had my decoys about 12 yards out in front and to the right of me. I yelled at the thing twice before it finally slinked off into the brush. Heard it scream about 150 yds down the creek bottom a few minutes later. It was not fun, as soon as it was light enough to see I packed up and left.

Have called in several coyotes among other things......and yes a cougar and two half grown kittens one time hunting Easterns in western Washington.  Spooky, as I had been crawling around for 7-8 weeks without a gun scouting the same area.  They are creepy quiet for sure.  Had to make a hand motion to spook the kittens as they came within 6-7 feet away from my location while momma was staking the two decoys in front of me.

Good thing was I shot an Eastern about 2 hours later maybe 250 yards away from the encounter.

Longrangekiller that is freeky...was the cat getting ready to pounce on your bro?

Last turkey season I had just shot my bird and gutted it (tops 15 minutes) when my buddy and I hear these heavy foot blows coming towards us...we thought 'horses?'  naw to 'big' then 60 yards or so we see legs moving in the firs, but don't see bodies cause the branches 5-6' up were concealing it.  Finally this creature steps out in a clearing and we find ourselves staring down a moose.  The more foot blows and find ourselves now in the company of two cows and a calf!  Other than mamma griz and cub the cow and calf moose combo is also 'very' dangerous.  One of the cows escorted the calf away, however, the other turned and faced us.  Then all of a sudden the woods erupted in snorts and what sounded like a freight train running through the woods knocking small trees over and whatever the hell else got in its way...there was a bull behind the three which winded us and just took off!  Second craziest moment in the woods.  My buddy thought it would be cool to take pictures and opted for his camera over his 357...I gladly offered to hold it.  We just couldn't believe after the commotion of shooting a bird and busting up a 9 bird flock that a herd of moose would walk in on us.
