what one can you hit a softball with at 200 yards?  thats the one you should hunt with....I'd go with better bullet construction anytime over caliber as long as it shoots straight

Black bears aren't that big,and they aren't hard to kill.

Man I keep seeing this and I guess that I need to knock a few more in the dirt but I heart/lung shot a bear at 70yds and it turned and ran right at me tell I put an other round in it. :dunno:

I'd like to get one of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.950_JDJthese.  It's classified as a sporting cartridge, so legal to own!
But I've seen bears take the dirt nap from as small as a .308 Win at 200+ yards.

The articles I've seen have said that min for black bear is 30-30 or ballisicly equal. And after my bear I would want a good bullet in a 308win or bigger. There is just something about a animal that can clean your clock running out you that I would feel a little over kill in a gun is ok (as long as u can handle it)

I know my grandfather shot a charging sow with a 30-30 and killed it and it's cub with one shot. He always felt bad that it came to that.

I've shot several bears with a 7mm08 and 140 grain corlocks.  All have dropped but 1 he went 30 yards and piled up.

I like my Ruger #1 25-06 best.  I shot killed this one.  That said, I will be hunting with a Browning A-bolt 300WSM this year only because it's about 3.5 pounds lighter the the #1
