GLOCK, M&P, or XD ???
« on: April 21, 2011, 06:19:15 PM »
Hey guys I am looking for some opinions on a pistol selection. I am not a pistol shooter and need to learn and become proficient with it.
This is not going to be a plinker, I am going into law enforcement and this is going to be my service weapon. I am going to take some tactical lessons from a pro, once  I make my choice. I am leaning toward to .40 cal too

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE AND OPINIONS!!!!!

The cops will train you for free, why waste your money. All my cop friends carry 40's.

Call around to some ranges in your area and see if they have them to rent.  We went to Norpoint in Marysville and shot 5 or 6 different 9MM's in an hour (2 of us, gun rental and a box of shells for about $50).  That's a hard choice between the Glock and M&P, both great guns.  Never shot the XD.  It'll have to be how it feels to you.

I have owned an M&P and now I have two XD's. The M&P was very picky on ammo. I had one box that only half of them fired, and the firing pin did hit the primer. I sent it in to S&W and the tested it and said the firing pin was within spec. I got rid of it after that. Both my XD's will shoot whatever I throw at them. I have the sub-compact, and the 4" service model. Never owned or shot a Glock.

I like the comfort and the reliabbility of the Glocks. They'll eat anything you throw at them plus they feel comfortable in my hand. The XD's feel top heavy to me. I know they're good guns. I believe these pistols to be like backpacks...lots of good ones, you got to find one that fits you well. I just bought Glock #2, a Gen 3 Glock 23... .40 compact. Nice size.
My G22 was awesome too, just a little big.

Beings your life could depend on it I would go with an XD probably the most reliable semi auto out there, and accurate. If it fits you well.

Don't worry. You will be taught the right way. I'd say you'll end up with a Glock.

Check out the Blackhawk Cross Six holster. I just got one for my Glock 23 and love it. I have the XD 45 and it is very top heavy.

Gotta be a glock. XD felt top heavy to me as well. All the glocks i have ever shot ate everything i threw at it. They have been around a long time with a great reputation to back them up.  :twocents: All are good guns....hit up a range that rents them and shoot them...the one that fits and shoots well is the one you should get. Good luck and let us know what you get.

So I personally like xd over glocks. The way glocks recoil and fit just isn't right to me. My xd wil chew throw anything I put in the mag and it's pretty accurate and I've nailed a coyote with it too. It's really about what you like and can shoot well the flock and xd both have good services records.
