Well congrats on getting hired. That being said have you had a chance to talk to some of the other officers you will work with to see what they carry and seeing about shooting their guns to get an idea of what you like?

Thanks I am really excited about the move to Montana and the new carrier. I am still in west wa, so shooting there guns isn't an option, but most of them are shooting Glocks in a .40 or .45. My bro in a Deputy in Olympia and He is going to let me shoot his Glock 22 and 27, and I am gooing to borrow y friends M&P.45 and try them all next week :)

Its all about the way they fit YOUR hand. Glocks don't point well for me. The grip angle doesn't work for my hands. I went with an XD.

my wife and i both have glock 40's and we love them they both have thousands and thousands of rounds through them.  she carried hers  for years as an officer and we both trusted them to help bring her home at the end of the day. but you have to shoot them and find out witch one fits you and you like

A little late in the reply but if you haven't made a purchase yet, I'd go with a Glock if that's what your agency will also issue if you're looking for a back up sub compact.  If your new agency issues Glock, any other sub compact of the same caliber, with the exception of the slim .45, will also take the same magazine of the larger models.  So a sub compact 27 will accept the magazines of a 22 or 23, which is nice as you won't have to carry separate magazines.  Of course the 27 is fairly small and looks a little funny with a 15 round mag in it, but looks ain't important in a fire fight ~ the ability to go home at the end of shift is!!  And trust me, your duty belt will have enough chit on it without you having to worry about separate mags for your back up  :chuckle:  Congratulations on the new job and stay safe out there!!!

I worked in a Spokane gun shop for 3 years and the 3 you are considering were the 3 best sellers for us. The glock ruled the roost by a huge margin. 2 years ago, the xd came in second, but the M&P has really made a big push the last couple years. Of the three, I only own a glock (glock 22). I find the M&P to be the most comfortable in the hand, but the reputation of the glock is hard to argue with. The store is also a range with all three in rental. As far as I can remember, the only issues seen have been with XDs. Two have had grip safeties fail, locking the pistol into an inoperable state. I would still consider it a fine pistol, but figure I should share all info. I have also seen a failure after relatively few rounds with an M&P from a fellow employees gun. They will all have issues now and then, but I have often described Glocks as being boringly reliable. They are ugly and not very ergonomic, but they always work. Most any modern pistol is more than accurate enough (not all shooters are). Any of the 3 would serve you well.
Everyone has something to teach, so listen up
