I liked my 500TA never had problems with it. But it was a play toy not for hunting.

they are virtually indestructible for sure...but they are cheaply built...does that make sense?
you should be able to buy a nice one for $200.
i'd save another hundy or so and get a nova or an 870 if i was you.

I haven't shot that model but Mossbergs are good solid weapons.  I've always looked at them as more for home defense than hunting though.

If they are the tang safety ones, I have seen the things fly right off while shooting.
I have no idea why, seen it three times.

the 500's dont hold their value!  hard to get much more than say 150$ because I can buy a used 835 for under 200$ if ya shop around!

but i love my 835!!!  I have 2!

I used to use a 500 pistol grip for home defense (the 8 shot type) but gonna switch one of my 835's to double pistol grip home defender!

I have used a beat to death 500 for years. Best $150bucks I have ever spent. (Sort of...) I liked the Mossberg so much I finally upgraded to a new 935... I prefer the tang safety, mine has never failed.
