I think your fine with the .257 rob.  The numbers look plenty good for bear and elk at even 200 yrds.

 Like everyone else, shot placement will be key. Id do some research and find a round that will have good expansion at that range.

my buddie uses one for elk every year. hasnt had the chance to take an elk yet though. he handloads and i can get some hot loads from him with 130gr bullets. i cant remember the bullet though.

id like to get this rifle refinish and turn it into a 257 ackly imp.

    Bear aren't that hard to kill. If a Roberts will kill a big buck at 300 yds it will do in a bear at 300 just fine.  Hell for that matter might even kill one at 301yds! :yike:  Shot placement is key no matter what you shoot.

I wouldn't buy a Rob just to hunt bear.  But load one up with a Partition and see a bear out deer hunting and that's one dead bear!! :)
