Muleysniper and Wastickslinger's 2011 Turkeys
« on: April 24, 2011, 08:09:21 AM »
Stick and I continued to put the smack down on some birds again this season. We rolled into our camp uncertain of what the unpredictable conditions would have in store for us. We have our favorite roosts we like to hunt so we didn't go out that first night we arrived already confident. Set the alarm and stepped out the next morning to wind and snow :bash: We've never had much problem getting them in the snow in the past but the wind is about the worst thing that can happen for turkey hunting. Lots of smart mature birds this year. We had several close encounters where those suckers would just hang up. The majority of the Toms we got into were henned up which made things even more difficult. Hopefully next year isn't a bust with the low numbers of Jakes we saw, not sure if last year was a hard winter or what but it seemed this years numbers were down some. Also with this really wet spring were having hopefully that doesn't make things worse. Here are a couple of Stick with his bird. I don't remember what his stats were. He has pics of mine he'll add when he gets around to it. Mine was a good Tom weighing 17 lbs and a 9 3/4" beard. One of my better ones. I also got about ten minutes of video from 75 yards of a real pretty color phase bear, I'll post it up when I get it uploaded to youtube.
