Alright finally got time to sit down and do a little recap of the trip. We rolled into town at about 2:30 Thursday morning and decided since it was only a couple hours until daylight just to catch a couple hours of sleep in the truck and just set up camp later on in the day. Both Thursday and Friday proved to be pretty uneventful, due to pretty inconvenient weather, (snow, rain, hail, wind, thunderstorms) we pretty much had it all. But throughout those two days we were seeing birds, but the birds we were seeing weren't talking, and/or were henned up.

Saturday rolled around and after a few unsuccessful setups in the morning we all regrouped at camp for a quick lunch. Yelp and Jason decided to go one way looking for birds, while Trevor and I decided to go back to areas where we'd been seeing birds in the days prior since the weather was taking a turn for the better. We arrived at our spot at around 1:30 and were greeted to a gobbling bird, a good sign to say the least. We determined which way he seemed to be headed, got in front of him, and set up. A few short series of yelps and he hammered back, game on! A thunderstorm was headed our way and with each boom he was shock gobbling his way towards us. Trevor worked the bird over the ridge and into sight. As he crested the ridge at 31 yards he saw something he didn't like and decided it was time to head on out, but it was too late, BOOM, longbeard down. Which couldn't have come at a better time as the skies decided to open up on us shortly after.

We decided with the storm being right on top of us and a bird down we would take the chance to run back to town and fill up with gas while waiting on the weather. After about an hour the skies cleared and we were back into another area where we'd seen plenty of bird sign, hoping to find Trevor a bird. Shortly after we could hear a bird hammering away on top of a steep ridge. Wasting no time hiking up top, we crested the ridge, set out the decoys and got set up. This bird was fired up, and Trevor again worked his magic, calling him down the ridge to us and BOOM, another bird down within about 2 hours! We spent the rest of the evening finding potential suitors for the next morning, before surprising Jason and Yelp back at camp with two longbeards.

Sunday morning came early as we were on birds right away. The cameras were rolling in full force as Yelp was the only tag left in camp. A couple setups proved uneventful as the birds just didn't quite want to commit, and it was time to go tear down camp. All loaded up and ready to make the long trip back home, the Ol' Wiley Yelper himself had one more spot he wanted to check out on the way home. As we arrived at the spot we showed up just in time to see two guys leaving the area he wanted to be. By the time we went and turned around the other guys were gone, so we stopped, Yelp whipped out his funnel and we were greeted with an instant response and it was game on again. We worked our way up the ridge and set up on the bird and shortly into the setup realized he was across a steep canyon from us. But the "Turkey Whisperer" had one last trick left up his sleeve and after a half an hour of coaxing the whole flock, pitched across the canyon headed our way. The rest is history as the big bird took his last gobble and wrapped up an awesome weekend.

Three birds down on film in four eventful and not so eventful days. A fun trip with the crew indeed and getting a chance to hang out and hunt with the funnel man himself!
