OK taxidermist      what is the hardest or least favorite animal that you  mount

Im no taxidermist but the hardest game for me is a Delta Gamma sorority junior at 10pm drinking diet coke with 14 sorority sisters standing around her... now thats hard to mount...

as for taxidermy... I have no idea

from what Ive seen...people really like to screw up cats! so maybe cats.   birds seem to be hard for people to get right as well!

Yeah I'd have to agree with you on the cats, and birds, some people just have a gift.

I saw a place on-line that whooped and hollered about their wolves and foxes, and I was not very impressed. Fox all looked like a crosses with a persian cat  and the wolves looked like they were stitched up road kills.

On a more seriouse note I would have to say cats for me. Havent had a whole lot of experiance with em. My first lifesize bobcat and cougar turned out better than most taxidermist, at least thats what I was told.I know what I need to adress on my cats to get the realism I want to see. Its mainly about the eyes first nose and ears but you also have to start with a good form aand alter as needed to make more lifelike. There are some forms that do have a nice natural look to them. I dont mount birds or fish .

My thoughts were on cats.  I've seen very few that were done lifelike and alot that were just flat messed up.   I have no doubt that bucklucky has the skill to do it, his other attention to detail is flawless with his elk and deer and bear.  Facial features and feet are just hard to get on them with all of theri musculature I suppose.  Peyser here in Selah does the best I have seen on Kittys, and thats nation or worldwide.

Agree with Bone and Bucklucky. Details are everything when it comes to all taxidermy but especially Cats. Particularly with the regard to the eyes, nose and ears. Getting the right anatomy and then creating a lifelike expression is the trick.

Cats have an extra flap of skin in their ear that can be difficult to get right. Also getting the color of the nose correct is'nt easy. I haven't done enough of them to have all of the skills down to a routine so it takes me a long time when working on cats.

FYI, I'm not a practicing taxidermist any more except for doing our own mounts so I'm only speaking from past experience. Most qualified taxidermists can do a good job, but I strongly recommend looking at examples of their work before dropping off your trophy in order to avoid disappointment.

Hey bone,Peyser does do a nice job on cats, they look good. But Phil Soucy is the man wheb it comes to cats, his look exceptionaly real. Check out his website www.philipsoucy.com . He is where I wana be in the industry, at the top .
