Yakima Canyon Sheep

Was going through some pictures on my computer and came across my sheep pictures from when I was going to school in Eburg. They aren't the best. They were shot with a 80-400 VR lens on a tripod, but the wind was ripping through the canyon that day (Thanksgiving '06). Here's a few of the better ones though...

When I was living over there, you could drive through the canyon and see them just about every day during the winter. I think they move out of there in the summer time though.

Here are a couple from the canyon. They're pictures of pics, so I had to make them B&W. Came out horrible, but you get the idea.

Nice. The only time I've seen some was during last year late archery season. I almost hit some on the road. What happen was I saw them right next to the side of the road, and so I slowed down to past them. As soon as I got near them, couple tried to cross the road infront of my truck.

If it wasn't such an ugly blah background I'd come over and shoot them more often. Too bad we don't have any in the Alpine Lake Wilderness or something...

Yeah, best time to get them is about November. They're kind of a pain as there isn't much topography They hang right off the river and the best angle is across the river. that puts you at a considerable distance. There is getting to be more of them up the tieton, which can have some decent backdrops. I ouldn't trust the frickin snakes this tie of year, though I didn't see any today. m

they look good from the driftboat!!
the day my truck got stolen 2 years ago i watched 5 of them across the river on that face from red's campground for an hour or so before we launched. there was 3 rams and 2 ewes, and they were rutting pretty hard. 2 big rams each had a ewe and one little ram kept trying to make a move for one of the ewes. every time he would get up, this one full curl ram would get all stiffened up and lower his head like he was gonna open up a can of whoopass, then the little one would lay back down. this went on for an hour or so. great thing to be able to see, from 75 yards or so.
