my wifes bow and advice

my wife has decided she wants to get into bow hunting and wants to go this September. so i bought her a Parker sidekick extream 40- 60 lbs pull 24- 28 inch draw and 80% let off, beman ics hunters 100 gran g5 montec broad heads. shes pulling about 45 lbs and fairly accurate out to 40 yards. i was wondering what your guys thoughts was? will this setup be effectave on elk i really don't want an injured animal in the woods or for her first bow hunt to be a let down for her

That set up will be very deadly as long as she does her part.  I would suggest an elk sized target and practicing shot placement all summer.

It will be effective if the shot is well placed.  My suggestion would be to go to a two blade 125 grain head like a magnus stinger.  A heavier arrow is going to be better for penetration and the two blade is preferred to the three blade for lower poundage bows.

I love the montec's! I shoot them a lot and have taken 10+ big game animals with them including some of the tuffest out there. That being said I prefer with my family and clients to see anyone shooting under 60lbs use a 2 blade with bleeders or without them. I like the magnus broadheads a lot. I also bought a bunch of the muzzy phantom broadheads to play with in my recurves, and my wifes bow. 45lbs is more then enough to take big game animals. Just tell he to wait for a good broadside shot or quater away shot. Make sure she learns to stay away from the shoulders on the elk. Shannon Alwine is a great example she has taken some very large animals with a lighter draw weight. Seen plenty of animals killed with 40-50lbs

The set up sounds fine to me.  I would recommended finding some 3-D shoots during the summer and have her shoot them.  They are great hunting practice and can be a lot of fun.

Ted Nugent only uses a 50lbs draw weight bow on African big game so if it’s good for ted it should work for your wife. “Aim small hit small”

Dreamingbig hit it on the head! My first elk was a big Rosevelt 4point. With my  42 lb. bow, cut-on -impact single blade broadhead. XX75 2113 easton arrows. That year I took a record bear and mulie...I was hooked!  It's all about shot placement!

my "much" better half is 5'11" and have her shooting a mathews fx at 52 lbs....she shoots it dang good.  she's killed 5 deer with it and as hunted elk with her 100 gr arrows but has yet to tag one .  don't have and issue with her hunting elk cuz she knows her limitations and if/when she lets go on one it will be just an issue of getting the packs together because meats down.

thanks guys this puts my mind at eaze. she should be good out to 30-35 yards. i just wanted to be sure i really hate haveing to track an animal because of, well any reason or not finding one. in 20 years i have never left and animal in the woods that was hit. i like quick clean kills. her first 2 deer went maybe 15 yards but that was with a 30.06 i just have to make sure she knows 35 yards is her limit

WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE! Just kidding. As long as her strength and accuracy are up to snuff, she should be able to drop anything she shoots.
