Tikka, I have one she can shoot if you would like!!  I live in Yelm, we could meet at a friend of mines place set up my little bench and let her shoot it.
Your call, to be clear I am not wanting to sell a gun, just let her and you shoot it.!

I shoot a Rem 700 SPS in a .270.  I LOVE it.  If you are getting her a full sized gun (not a youth model) that she will keep forever, I'd jump on it.
On the other hand, I bought PathfinderJR the new Marlin bolt action XS7Y in .308 for his birthday last year.  Since it is a youth rifle and I figured he would outgrow it and pass it on to his little brother in a few years I opted for the Marlin because it was cheaper than a Rem 700 Youth.  It's actually a great little rifle, shoots tight groups and I love the trigger.

Awful nice Youth Model Savage in the classifieds for $250.  Can't go wrong with that for a first rifle.
I PM'ed the guy last week and he never responded.   :dunno:
Bofire, thank you for the offer.  She has shot a Tikka, Remington and a Savage, she likes them all.  LOL!  We wound up getting side tracked today and didn't get into town.  We have to go look at a boat in the morning and will be doing the "tour 'o' gun stores" afterwards.  I'll have her check out all the different brands that we come across.  While in Shelton we will see what Wally World has to offer as well.  I heard they have better prices than Cabela's on some top o the line rifles.
Thanks again folks!

Well, we spent a good part of the day yesterday (with Mom in tow) looking at dozens of different rifles of all sizes, shapes and brands.  She narrowed it down to a Savage Youth in camo or a Remingtom ADL.  With no help from me she chose the Remington ADL synthetic.  She said she was ready for an adult rifle, did not want a detatchable magazine and that was her favorite out of all.  Can't wait to get her out shooting next weekend and have her on coyote watch while I am at work!
Thanks for everyone's input!

I've got a 700 classic from the late seventies and it's a fine gun that shoots tight, tight groups. I have a Rem shotgun, too. I don't think there are too many bad Remingtons out there.

I think she would want something light, around 6lbs.  A .243Win is a great choice, but do not forget  other calibers: 7X57Mauser, 7mm-08, 65.X55Sweede.  I started my boys on a Ruger Model 77 Stainless all weather in .243 that thing will shot 3/8" groups at 100 yards, my reloads of course.
