sore on lab's leg
« on: August 29, 2011, 03:09:16 PM »
My black lab has a sore by her knee that she continues to lick and it won't heal. Any tips on what to do or how to keep her from licking it?

Go to your local feed store and get Blue kote. Its an antiseptic and is real good stuff. The knee is a tough place to have a sore but it will heal. Also grab a small can of Bag Balm while your there, Its also very good for this kindof thing.

Here is a great place for all the stuff you need for your hunting dog.

one of our labs had a small sore from hunting.  she kep licking it and it got bigger and bigger.  We tried everything wrapping it the lampshade then the other dogs would lick it (we think)  We tried emt and every kindof of cream and ointment.

Finnally by chance she sprained the leg had to be in a cast for a month.  As soon as they took cast off the would was almost healed just the size of a pea.  As soon as we put her in the truck at vets office she started to lick.

Went back in to vet and they said use bitter apple?  I had used it for pup so he wouldnt chew never thought of spraying it on a sore.  Well it worked

Good Luck

Where do you get the bitter apple? I can't get my dog to stop licking everything I put on it.  :bash:
