I called in three last year while bear hunting, let all go, as I was hunting bearskies....

but nowadays...my finger is itchy....until I start back up with big game, its on for yotes.

as one fellow said earlier, when im deer hunting, im hunting deer. i dont really go for killing on the side, or ornamental killing.. i try not to kill anything that i dont really truely and dearly want. so, if im big game hunting, i always let them go.

all depends on mood for me, ive had several friends get upset at me because sometimes i see a yote and just cant pass up the opportunity and they always assume that ive killed a deer so when i hold up a yote as they peek over the top of the ridge they usually start swearing at me, but ive also let a lot of them walk.

too many people over estimate game's intelligence and /or confuse it for reaction...

a loud noise with no context is not that scary...ie, thunder   its the hunters movement and noise just following the shot that often provides the context.

Many many times Ive seen all sizes of deer, boars, and even turkeys... no idea on Elk.

Ive shot at a deer at 30 yards and something went wrong with the shot (ie scope knocked off by a YARD :bash:) only to get multiple adjustment shots without much over a flinch.

Ive shot 3 deer at one go with 30 seconds of re-aim between while they trotted around 20 yards at a time in circles...

Ive done it from the ground and a tree stand.

The key, absolute silence and stone lack of movement for the 3 minutes following the shot while the animal is looking for fear context. If they found none ... you just became THUNDER ;)

So, Ill take opportunity targets while hunting big game. I considered hogs opportunity targets while deer hunting in the south... cant tell ya how many deer Ive killed 15 minutes after blasting 3 shots at hogs and never moving!

so...yotes die if I see em. ;)

I always let them go unless I'm actually hunting them. Just another critter to chase later. I can't remember the last time I shot a coyote while hunting something else. Once I shot one at about 70 yards with #4's. That bad boy moved faster than any yote I've ever seen!
