First Blacktail Buck of Spring
« on: May 21, 2011, 09:49:00 PM »
I got this guy last week (date on cam wrong) about 100 yards out my back door. He is the first buck I have gotten on my cam this spring. When going down to check it I jumped eight deer in all. Judging from the size of his bases I think he will be a decent buck.

I checked the cam again tonight. 27 more pics and 3 different bucks (I think). For some reason two of the pics came out bad, but you can tell it's a buck.

Looks like it's definitely a buck to keep an eye on. I got a picture of a buck on 4/20, and you could just barely even tell it was a buck. I'm anxious to go out tomorrow and check that same camera to see if I got any more recent pictures of the same buck. It's been three weeks since I checked it last. I posted the pictures on here already but here he is again:

Not to pick on you Chris, but why dont you set the date correct when you place your cam. I have seen many people's trail cams set with the wrong date. It only takes a minute, and is invaluable for your scouting.

Wow, nice pics.  I am so ready to get out in the field and do some scouting. I have my camera out and need to check it some time this week before I go into surgery on my knee.
Once the result come back from the our special hunt applications I should be ready then to get out and scout for additional locations.

Looks to be a good, healthy deer, Chris.  But hard to guess how big the rack will be at this point.  I saw two bucks today that had already started branching.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.
