Need advice on leaving evidence of sex
« on: October 06, 2019, 11:30:56 AM »
So I have never quartered a deer in the field and have always taken it out whole but this time I want to quarter it if I get one. I’m worried about accidentally cutting the penis or scrotum off of a hind quarter. How do I keep the balls or scrotum on when quartering? Is it as easy as it sounds of are there things I need to watch out for?

It’s easy, check out some YouTube videos. They help a ton!

Easy enough to leave a nut attached to a rear quarter. Plus you get 2 tries in case you mess it up. Usually just remains attached by some fat or connective tissue.

biggest pain is hair on the meat.  I tie a plastic sack around the "sack"

I’ve never done it myself.

You can skin the nut or rubber band a ziplock to keep the hair off.  Go slow and you have two chances at it.  It looks harder than it is.

You can also keep a length of his thing, but the nut is the easiest for me.

Mark the game bag somehow so you don’t have to do a fire drill if you need to show it.

Hair should be a non issue. If you are leaving hair on you're doing it wrong  :twocents: you have to skin the quarter so skinning the scrotum is just a few inches more skinning.
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

Just skin out one nut and work your way down until it attaches to the meat.  Again start at the nut first and you will be fine.  If you are boneing out an animal just leave a chunk of the hind quarter on whatever is connected to the nut.
