I am using mineral salt with selenium (thanks Devin), and wet cob. The cob is spendy but works so good! I agree the apples will be a nice addition soon!

One thing I have noticed this year is my salts alone are not working very well.. I have watched bucks within 100 yards or less of my salt locations and hve yet to get pics of them. Feed helps a ton such as sweet mix and when apples become available those will bring every deer in

Well that' interesting....any thoughts on why. Shane, do you use cob or have you thought about using some other kind of feed attractant? Just curious. I may head over in a few weeks and might take something else over....like I said before, I have only used salt or minirel blocks.
Just one more day

I am using 1 part mixing salt/2 part trace mineral with selenium/1 part dicalcium phosphate (mixed into the soil. And the deer were hitting it really well long before I put the feed out. However, it had to be in a spot they were already using heavily. If it was in an area that I chose just because I thought it looked nice for a treestand set-up then they only hit it mildly.

Alfalfa works great and goes along ways for the price..even better if the animals dont have access to alfalfa fields in the area. Apples around here are free once they are ready..just have to pick them. COB is great, but gets spendy and the bears LOVE it. Starting a salt now could be a hit or miss with whats actually in the area...like mine and few buddys are not getting all the deer in the area on their cams with licks alone.  I have a lick I started in March.. a cam hanging on it since late may and this last week when I checked it a new buck was on it.

Really like the variety of animals your getting on your cameras. Some good bucks also

It sucks when bears move in and take over the baited area. :bash:

That is the main reason I have not used cob yet. I may throw out some alfalfa though at the privite land cam sites.

I hate to ask a dumb question but are we looking at a grizzly and a black bear together in that one picture?

No im pretty sure its a red bear. The one that really looks like a grizzly is that blonde bear on the last page, but I just think its a blonde phase. Anyone want to go bear hunting :chuckle: I sure wish we could hunt bears over bait to thin em out a little! :bash:

I literally have bear hit any spot that I put out bait. Last year I even had them in areas bordering Spokane city limits. I can't afford to feed them so if they keep this up I wont' be baiting for much longer. They will literally camp out on the bait and keep every other animal away.
